Commission Hair Stylist

Our Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a commissioned stylist who embodies a balance of professionalism and personality—someone who’s mature, kind, and respectful to both their clients and colleagues, and who values keeping the salon space clean and organized.

Our ideal candidate has a down-to-earth attitude and a passion for educating their clients. We don’t expect our clients to know what we know—it’s our job to teach them how to care for their hair at home. There’s no room for snobbery here; we value approachability and kindness above all.

Ideally, you’ll have at least 5 continuous years of experience, but we’re open to emerging talent with the drive to learn, grow, and build a thriving career—not just someone looking for “a job.”

Specialization Matters

Let’s be real—we’re not looking for a stylist who “specializes in everything.” Unless you’re some kind of mythical creature, most of us have one or two services we’re truly passionate about and excel at. That’s exactly what we value!

Here’s what we’re currently looking for:

  • Stylists adept at cutting, coloring, and caring for curly textures. Both of our curly specialists are fully booked, so there’s a high demand for more talent in this area.

  • Stylists who specialize in fantasy color, extensions, or color corrections. These are growing areas of interest, and we’d love to add someone who shines in these services.

Your Success Is Our Priority

At Katie Blue Salon, we’re genuinely invested in your success. Every quarter, our management meets with each stylist for a personalized informal review of your performance. This isn’t just about crunching numbers—it’s about understanding your goals and helping you achieve them. Qualifications:

  • Valid Virginia cosmetology license.

  • Strong technical skills in hair cutting, coloring, and styling.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • At least 5 years continuous experience as a hair stylist.
